In Auvergne, FDJ UNITED is committed to biodiversity

FDJ UNITED supports a project to preserve an ancient forest and its remarkable beech trees in Saint-Front, Auvergne. These old-growth forests, over 200 years old, are true reservoirs of biodiversity, home to centuries-old trees and numerous protected species. They represent less than 5% of mountain forests in Auvergne and are now threatened by logging.

Located at the foot of Mont Mézenc and near Mont Gerbier de Jonc, the site hosts remarkable beech trees (also known as fayards) as well as critical habitats for Tengmalm’s owl, a threatened species.

The project led by FDJ UNITED, in collaboration with Sylvamo, CEN Auvergne and GPF 43, aims to restore the forest’s natural characteristics, monitor and catalogue protected species, and conserve associated ecosystems (wetlands and rocky habitats).

FDJ UNITED Supports the Protection of the Angelshark in Corsica

With the support of FDJ UNITED, the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) and its partners are conducting studies on the angelshark (Squatina squatina), a critically endangered species. Once widespread in the Mediterranean, it now mainly survives off the coast of Corsica, in the Cap Corse and Agriate Marine Natural Park, a key refuge area for the species.

A Structured and Ambitious Environmental Commitment

Faced with the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource overexploitation, FDJ UNITED is taking action to reduce its ecological footprint and mobilize its entire ecosystem.

Its action is built around three main priorities:

  • Climate: reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain, in line with the Paris Agreement.

  • Biodiversity: contributing to the preservation and restoration of ecosystems, in accordance with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and France’s National Biodiversity Strategy.

  • Resources: reducing water consumption, cutting and recycling waste, and promoting responsible packaging.

Today: Concrete Actions for Climate and Biodiversity

This program aims to better understand habitats, protect unique ecosystems, and raise public awareness, including through the production of an educational film.

For several years, FDJ UNITED has been supporting projects for the protection and restoration of biodiversity.

  • ONF – “Agir pour la Forêt” Fund: in response to the devastating wildfires that struck French forests in summer 2022, FDJ UNITED donated €200,000 to the ONF-managed “Agir pour la Forêt” fund, contributing to ecosystem restoration.

  • WWF Nature Impact Fund: FDJ UNITED sponsors this initiative launched by WWF France, which aims to protect and restore biodiversity, with a goal of conserving 15,000 hectares of threatened forests, thereby storing 400,000 tons of carbon over 30 years.

  • French Biodiversity Office: in 2024, FDJ UNITED renewed its support with a €700,000 grant for three new initiatives: restoring wetlands at Domaine du Paraclet (Somme), monitoring migratory birds in Morbihan, and preserving Martinique’s forests. The Group also supports the “Mission Nature” lottery game. Since 2023, it has raised over €14 million, funding 43 biodiversity restoration projects in mainland France and overseas, including 21 new projects selected in 2025.

  • National Museum of Natural History: FDJ UNITED supports the “Tour de France of Biodiversity,” combining events, exhibitions, and expert talks to raise awareness about ecosystem richness and preservation.

  • Fabrice Amedeo, environmental sailor: the Group supports his “Ocean Calling” project through the Vendée Globe 2028, which collects oceanographic data on plastic pollution, sea temperature, and environmental DNA.

Beyond sponsorship, FDJ UNITED also acts within its core business: for nearly 15 years, its scratch cards have been printed using plant-based inks on FSC-certified paper, containing up to 20% recycled fibers.

Tomorrow: Stronger Environmental Support

FDJ UNITED’s voluntary social and environmental contribution will progressively increase to 5% of its published net income by 2030, compared to 2.7% in 2024.

As part of this, the Group has announced a €5 million investment in Averrhoa Nature-Based Solutions, a fund launched by Ardian in partnership with aDryada. The fund finances the restoration of forests, wetlands, and mangroves to sequester significant amounts of carbon.

For the fourth consecutive year, FDJ UNITED is listed among the most virtuous companies in the Vérité40 index—recognition of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The Group will continue on this ambitious path through 2030, aiming to align with a global warming trajectory limited to 1.5°C.

European Sustainable Development Week 2025

The 2025 ESDW, which also marks the 10th anniversary of the 2030 Agenda, will place special emphasis on climate change adaptation. It brings together citizens, businesses, communities, and associations around local initiatives such as workshops, conferences, cleanup operations, and awareness campaigns.

FDJ UNITED is fully engaged in this effort through its mitigation plan, showcasing its projects and encouraging everyone to act for a more sustainable future.

Through its initiatives for climate, biodiversity, and sustainable resource management, FDJ UNITED confirms its role as a responsible and committed economic player. The 2025 European Sustainable Development Week will be an opportunity to showcase these actions and to remind everyone that the ecological transition is a collective responsibility.
