ENVIRONMENT

FDJ UNITED is taking action to protect the environment

FDJ UNITED operates in a world where environmental challenges are increasingly complex. The risks associated with climate change, the erosion of biodiversity and the over-exploitation of natural resources are all major concerns for the Group.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Aware of the impact of our activities, environmental protection is central to our commitments. As a major component of our CSR policy, reducing the Group’s environmental footprint is reflected in concrete actions aimed at:

  • Reducing our carbon footprint across the entire value chain, thereby contributing to the fight against climate change.
  • Making a positive contribution to biodiversity conservation.

In addition to these two strategic challenges, we are constantly striving to improve our practices by limiting the use of natural resources and eliminating all forms of waste.

Climate

Reducing our carbon footprint across the entire value chain

Climate change represents a major global challenge, requiring urgent and ambitious action to limit greenhouse gas emissions. International commitments, such as the Paris Agreement, call for capping global warming at 1.5°C in order to mitigate the associated environmental and social impacts.

OUR CLIMATE AMBITIONS

We have set the following objectives:

  • To reduce our carbon footprint across the entire value chain by engaging employees, partners, and suppliers.
  • To contribute meaningfully to the fight against climate change and assume a leadership role within our industry.
  • To adapt to climate-related risks by strengthening the resilience of our operations and the entire value chain.

OUR MAIN LEVERS FOR ACTION

Fully aware of our carbon footprint, we have defined a Climate Policy based on an assessment of our greenhouse gas emissions and structured around an approach that addresses both climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation.

Climate change mitigation

« Our challenge: reduce the Group’s carbon footprint»

We are committed to significantly reducing our direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions in the short (2025), medium (2030), and long term (2050). To achieve this, we have defined a decarbonisation trajectory as part of a transition plan, covering both our own operations and our supply chain.

Our four priority areas for climate change mitigation:

Energy efficiency and conservation

Digital responsibility Low-Carbon mobility Procurement decarbonisation
In compliance with the tertiary sector decree, we are committed to reducing our energy consumption in the metropolitan area by 40% by 2030. To support this goal, we launched an energy-saving plan in 2022 aimed at reducing energy use in our buildings, digital systems, and employee travel.

Between 2022 and 2024, we recorded a 2,819 kWh reduction in our electricity consumption.

We are committed to reducing our ecological and social digital footprint, an ambition that has resulted in the deployment of a dedicated operational roadmap.

We are also a member of the French Tech Corporate Community, a government-led initiative, and have signed the charter on “Rules of digital use for digital sobriety”.

We are taking action to promote more responsible mobility, aligned with ecological transition goals and the preservation of natural resources.

To this end, we are working to transition our vehicle fleet to electric models and encourage remote working practices to reduce employee travel.

Aware of the importance of decarbonising purchasing to achieve our goals, we launched the #BuyForGood program in 2023.

This program aims to support our suppliers in defining plans to reduce their carbon footprint, by adopting responsible practices and working together to design appropriate solutions.

Climate change adaptation

«Our challenge: Strengthen the resilience of the Group’s operations and assets to climate-related risks»

We have defined climate change adaptation as a strategic focus of our Climate Policy. In line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), we have developed an analytical framework that allows us to assess our exposure to both physical and transition risks, and to identify suitable adaptation solutions to safeguard the continuity and long-term resilience of our operations.

  1. Exposure assessment: We have developed a climate risk and opportunity mapping covering our supply chain, our own operations, and our downstream activities, in order to identify areas exposed to physical hazards.
  2. Adaptation and resilience solution: Based on detailed risk analysis, we define adaptation and resilience solutions (e.g. mitigation plans) aimed at securing our exposed assets and guaranteeing business continuity.

Biodiversity

Making a positive contribution to biodiversity preservation

The sustainable management of natural living resources and the conservation of biodiversity are essential to ensure the long-term viability of ecosystems on which both human life and economic activity depend. We recognize the need to adopt sustainable practices in managing natural resources and to actively contribute to ecosystem restoration, by aligning our actions with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the French National Biodiversity Strategy.

OUR AMBITIONS FOR BIODIVERSITY

We have set ourselves the ambition of taking action for nature and biodiversity through the following core commitments:

  • Mitigate the impacts of our sourcing and sites on nature by 2030, by applying the impact mitigation hierarchy across our entire value chain.
  • Contribute to the targets of the French National Biodiversity Strategy, particularly those aimed at economic actors.
  • Be an exemplary and influential economic player across our value chain, engaging both our ecosystem and the general public.
  • Continue adopting a science-based approach to better understand and manage biodiversity and ecosystem-related issues.

KEY FIGURES

  • 100 % of our gaming materials are printed on responsibly sourced FSC®-certified paper

  • €800 000 in direct and indirect financing for biodiversity offset projects

  • 145 ha of forest preserved and/or restored in France since 2019 thanks to our support for conservation projects

OUR MAIN LEVERS FOR ACTION

As part of the development of our Biodiversity Policy, we conducted in 2024 an impact analysis based on the main drivers of biodiversity loss (land-use change, resource overexploitation, pollution, invasive species, and climate change) across our entire value chain.
This analysis also assessed how these drivers contribute to biodiversity loss, in accordance with the principles defined by the IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services).

This analysis enabled us to assess the resilience of our business model and to identify significant physical and transition risks associated with the sourcing of materials of natural origin.
Based on the findings of this work, we structured an action plan around five strategic levers, aligned with the Avoid; Reduce; Restore; Regenerate; Transform approach.

This progressive framework serves to guide our decision-making at every stage of our interaction with ecosystems.

Avoid Reduce Restore Regenerate Transform
Limiting pressures on biodiversity by integrating this issue from the early stages of our projects and in our strategic choices (risk mapping, product LCA). Reducing impacts on ecosystems throughout our value chain by cutting resource consumption and continuously improving practices. Supporting ecological restoration projects in areas impacted by our activities, in partnership with recognized stakeholders such as OFB or FSC France®. Promoting ecosystem resilience and biodiversity regeneration in sensitive natural environments, in collaboration with partners such as WWF France. Mobilizing our entire ecosystem (employees, clients, partners) to accelerate the transition through awareness, engagement, and cooperation initiatives.

Focus on “FSC Biodiversity Ecosystem Services” projects funded by FDJ UNITED

Since 2019, we have been committed to preserving forest biodiversity in France. Each year, we fund « Verified Impact » projects that both protect forests and their ecosystem services, while generating economic benefits for forest owners.

Biodiversity Ecosystem Services projects

FDJ UNITED sponsors several funds for biodiversity restoration

  • Logo ONF

ONF – “Agir pour la forêt” Fund (Take Action for the Forest)

In the wake of the devastating summer wildfires in France, FDJ UNITED donated €200,000 to the ONF (French National Forestry Office) fund to support the national effort to restore damaged ecosystems.
    Allocation of funds :

    • 80 for rebuilding public forests in the Gironde region.
    • 20 % fot forests in Britanny, the Loire Valley, and Poitou-Charentes.

In 2024, two projects were financed:

    • Ecological restoration through the removal of Northern red oak in the Mardelles de Prémery Regional Nature Reserve (Nièvre – Department 58).
    • “Island of the Future” project in the Mouscardès State Forest (Landes – Department 40), focused on promoting climate-resilient forestry.
  • WWF – Nature Impact

FDJ UNITED sponsors the Nature Impact fund launched by WWF France, the first fund to be based on the Payments for Ecosystem Services (PSE) framework, and which serves the double purpose of protecting biodiversity and capturing carbon emissions.

The initiative’s main target is the conservation and restoration of biodiversity, the first ambitious target being the conservation of around 15,000 hectares of the most threatened forests. Protecting these hectares of land will contribute to a slowdown in climate change and have a positive impact on the climate through capturing and storing 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over 30 years.

  • The French Biodiversity Agency (OFB)

In 2023, we supported the restoration and management of two emblematic protected sites, among the 150 managed by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB).
The objective was to promote the return of forest wildlife species in Eastern France and to support marine biodiversity protection in Corsica, one of the organization’s major priorities.

This sponsorship was renewed in 2024, with the funding of three new projects:

    • Ecological restoration of a canal feeding the ponds of the Domaine du Paraclet (Natura 2000 site), aimed at preserving wetland areas.
    • Monitoring migratory birds in the Gulf of Morbihan National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve.
    • A forest restoration and endangered species preservation project in Martinique.

We are also the creator of the “Mission Nature” game offer. Since its launch in 2023, this initiative has raised over 14 million euros, helping to finance 43 biodiversity restoration projects in mainland France and the French overseas territories, including 21 new projects selected in 2025.

  • French National Museum of Natural History

We support the “Tour de France of Biodiversity”, led by the French National Museum of Natural History.

This awareness-raising program includes 24 stages across France, designed to showcase French biodiversity. It combines educational activities, exhibitions, and expert-led events to engage the public and highlight the richness of ecosystems and the importance of protecting them.

Ensuring sustainable use of resources

The intensive exploitation of natural resources, whether raw materials, packaging, or water, is a major driver of pressure on ecosystems. In response to rising global demand and resource scarcity, a transformation of production and consumption models is necessary.

OUR AMBITIONS REGARDING RESOURCE PRESERVATION

Responsible resource management, a cross-cutting pillar of our environmental policy, is reflected in the following commitments:

  • Reducing waste generation and improving waste recovery across all our sites and activities.
  • Improving the environmental performance of the materials and packaging we use.
  • Managing our water consumption effectively.

These actions reflect our ongoing commitment to limiting our impact on ecosystems and enhancing our overall environmental performance.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

Waste management, which affects greenhouse gas emissions, natural habitats and their ecosystems, as well as the availability of resources (such as oil, metals, and wood), is a key issue fully integrated into our environmental policy. To reduce the negative impacts of waste on the environment, we have defined an approach based on two main objectives:

  • Reducing waste generation at source.
  • Increasing waste recovery, particularly through recycling.

In line with the waste treatment hierarchy, we prioritize prevention, reuse, and recycling over other forms of recovery or disposal.
Our approach is structured around regulatory compliance, traceability of waste streams, and ongoing employee awareness-raising around a “zero waste” mindset. In addition, we have developed action plans aimed at reducing the use of single-use products, in line with the Group’s guidelines on responsible purchasing and material optimization.

For example, our scratch cards, lottery tickets, and paper receipts are all 100% recyclable.

  • 509 tons of recycled or reused waste in 2024

  • 2,278 tons of waste sent to landfill

  • 1,355 tons of waste incinerated with energy recovery

  • No waste incinerated without energy recovery

  • 193 tons of waste disposed of by other methods (including composting)

MATERIAL AND PACKAGING

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the materials used for our paper games, particularly paper and transport/logistics packaging, as our games are not sold in individual packaging. To this end, we apply eco-design principles to limit the use of resources and prioritize responsible materials.

We have thus committed to using FSC® certified paper for all our paper games. This label helps reduce the environmental impact of logging by promoting diversity of tree species and ensuring protection of soil, flora, and fauna in forests.

Efforts are also underway to reduce plastic use in our operations, lower the paper weight of our gaming materials by identifying sustainable alternatives, and limit non-essential promotional packaging.

  • 878 tons of wood fiber or paper-based materials used in 2024

  • 55 tons of plastic packaging used in 2024

  • 99 % recyclable

  • 3 % compostable

  • 3 % made with recycled content

WATER RESOURCES

We are committed to managing our water consumption and reducing our water footprint across our entire operational scope. The responsible use of this essential resource is part of a broader approach focused on efficiency and continuous improvement.

In addition to the annual monitoring of water consumption across all our buildings, we conducted an in-depth analysis in 2024 on our main sites to identify areas most affected by water stress, so we could locally adapt our practices.

  • 101 600 m³ of water consumed in 2024

ESG

Our ESG performance

Every year, we publish an annual report on our ESG performance. These documents present a comprehensive analysis of the Group’s sustainability performance, highlighting initiatives and results in the areas of social and environmental responsibility.
