Purpose

Our purpose: FDJ UNITED’s strategic compass

FDJ UNITED’s new purpose has been approved! Its registration in the preamble to the company’s articles of association was put to the vote of its shareholders at the Annual General Meeting held on May 22, 2025.

This reinvented purpose is the result of an unprecedented, collaborative approach on a national and international scale. More than 2,000 FDJ UNITED employees played an active role, alongside a wide range of stakeholders: some thirty external experts from a variety of backgrounds – NGOs, researchers, local partners – in France and abroad.

In particular, this dynamic has mobilized the members of the Stakeholder Committee, which oversees the implementation of our raison d’être commitments, as well as those of the Societal Laboratory, a forum for dialogue and co-construction with civil society on our societal and environmental challenges. Finally, more than 8,500 shareholders were involved in this consultation prior to the Annual General Meeting, underlining FDJ UNITED’s deep commitment to building its future in an open, responsible and shared way.

Our purpose

“Inspire the future of safe and entertaining lottery, gaming and betting with positive impacts on society”

We provide safe, innovative and entertaining lottery, gaming and betting products to our customers, wherever we meet them, and fuel their dreams and emotions.

We continuously strive to prevent and reduce the risks and harmful consequences associated with our activities. Our goal is to be recognized as the benchmark operator in the lottery, gaming and betting industry by inspiring and promoting best practices. Responsibility is our constant focus.

We actively support good causes and local communities and remain faithful to our longstanding heritage and our model of redistribution. We go beyond by taking actions to positively contribute to society and the environment.

We commit with passion to build a future of sustainable growth with our stakeholders based on a playful and fair model for lottery, gaming and betting.

What is a purpose?

A company’s purpose is a declaration of its commitment to making a positive contribution to society, by aligning its activities with broader objectives than mere economic profit. It expresses the company’s DNA and illustrates its identity, vision, mission, commitments and the ambition it intends to pursue in response to societal needs.

Since when has FDJ had a purpose?

In 2019, on the occasion of the PACTE law, the FDJ Group is beginning its reflection on the creation of a purpose with regard to its societal and solidarity commitments since its creation in 1933. An initial purpose, “Gaming is our business, contributing to society our driving force and responsibility our requirement”, the fruit of collaborative work with the Group’s employees and its various stakeholders, is enshrined in the preamble to the company’s bylaws following approval at the Annual General Meeting in June 2020.

What is the difference between a company's purpose and its values?

The identity of FDJ UNITED is defined by its purpose, values, and brand. Values are the fundamental principles that guide behaviors and shape our corporate culture. The purpose, on the other hand, is the mission that gives meaning to our work by expressing the positive impact FDJ UNITED aims to have on society and the environment. It is formulated as an inspiring statement that guides our actions and business strategy. Together, they form a coherent whole that defines the essence of the company.
