[Edito] FDJ UNITED’s commitment to a positive impact

Charles Lantieri
Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the FDJ Foundation

With the announcement of our new ambition and identity, it’s clear that our group is evolving more than ever before. We are now larger and more diversified, with a truly international presence across nearly 15 countries. However, some things will never change – most notably our commitment to our core values and to positively impacting society.

I am convinced that our economic performance, as an industry leader, and our non-financial performance are inseparable: one supports the other. And we will continue to move forward with this vision.

Charles Lantieri

I find it’s helpful to look back to our roots as a reminder of just how intertwined they are. FDJ UNITED has a rich legacy that resonates profoundly within French society. We trace our inception back to the establishment of the National Lottery in 1933, which was created to raise money to support the “Gueules Cassées” – soldiers wounded in World War One. This history and heritage has instilled in us our mission: drive gaming and betting forward with purpose and impact.

Indeed, history must not hinder us from moving forward, but act as a fuel to help us evolve.

I’ve seen this firsthand over the past two decades as each major change has helped us to strengthen our company’s cultural foundation. For example, in 2010, our move into competitive online gaming could have pulled us away from our strong anchoring in local communities…but, in fact, nothing could have been farther from the truth!

As the leading local retailer in France, we continued to double down on our local commitments through a variety of initiatives. One of these enabled partner retailers in our network to sponsor associations throughout France, while another took the form of contributions to protect French heritage sites in all their forms.

And as we continue to evolve, we also continue to adapt our approach – the Purpose we drafted in 2020, following our IPO, is currently undergoing a collaborative update to better reflect FDJ UNITED, its new composition, new collective projects, and new ambition. We look forward to revealing it at our next Annual General Meeting in May.

History also shows that we are firmly committed to safe gaming. I’m proud of our decades-long leadership in promoting responsible and safe entertainment experiencesand we are well-positioned to become a best-in-class operator on a European scale.

With the acquisition of Kindred, another pioneer in the realm of responsible gaming, we can now leverage advanced tools like their Player Safety – Early Detection System, which identifies high-risk gaming behaviours. FDJ UNITED is the first operator in the world to set targets for reducing gross gaming revenue from high-risk players. Premier Lotteries Ireland, which we acquired in 2023, is also recognised for its leadership in this area.

Together, we will continue to innovate and enhance our efforts to protect players, ensuring that responsible gaming is at the heart of our vision of tomorrow’s game.

I feel that as we broaden our reach internationally, the essence of who we are – our long history of commitment and responsibility – serves as our guiding light. It is with this belief that we step into a new chapter, prepared to embrace change while holding true to our vision: shape a truly responsible gaming and betting industry.

The future is bright for FDJ UNITED!
